Chapter 141

As they waited for their turn on stage, the guys sat in the back in their tent and pretty much twiddled their thumbs. "HOLY FUCKING GOD, I'M BORED!" Mike said.

"Mikey, I know. Just chill", Dan said as he plucked at an acoustic guitar.

"Play something funny, Danny", David said. Dan began playing a slow very Latin style and David made something up as Dan played. John and Mike both laughed. David even had a hard time keeping a straight face as he sang.

Brie walked into the tent as Danny played and David sang. She laughed at what David sang. When they heard her, David stopped singing and Dan stopped playing. "No need to stop on my account. That was funny. Talking about some vato seeing his asshole in a mirror and all that kind of crazy shit. I'm just back here to tell you guys that you have five minutes and that Malachai is on his way back here to wait with you. What song is he singing with you, anyway, baby?"

David thought about it, then looked at the guys. "What do you guys think?"

"How about 'Awaken'? That one has some pretty cool vocal effects in it', John said.

"Sounds good to me", David said.

"Ok, I'll have him listen to it for a little bit before he goes on", Brie said. "I'll give him my mp3 player."

--------------

The guys were half way through the first part of the set, just finishing up "Parasite". David had even given another one of his passionate monologues. Once the song was over, David introduced the next song. "I don't know how many of you here know this, but every once in a while we'll get the instrument out, gather our families in the living room, and have what we call Family Jam Night. Last night we did this, just for the hell of it when my eleven year old son decided that it was time to show his ol' Dad that he could do exactly what I do... and I mean exactly. The first song we did was 'Down with the Sickness", and when I came in the monkey call as we call it, there was this echo. I looked at my wife, who watched the kids, then motioned to our oldest and when I did the monkey noise again, so did he. So, for this next song, I'd like to introduce you sick mother fuckers to my oldest child, Malachai." He looked off stage and said, "come on out here, son."

Malachai came out onto the stage and waved at the crowd. "Hello, everyone."

There was nothing else to be said. The music came up and David leaned into Malachai real fast. "I'll do the first verse, you do the second, sing the chorus with me." Malachai just nodded. Then David came in, "Stripped of life, alone, in the midst of something that I want to play with your evil inside, Wanting, letting go of what never could be again, Lost and alone, imprisoned now inside your mind, With the way you tried to destroy me again, You were waiting and living for no one, With the way you tried to completely refuse all your life, Feed on your nothing you'll never live up to me."

Malachai came in with David. "Awaken you, With a little evil inside, Feed on your nothing, You'll never live up to me, I've stricken you, I don't wanna live with the lie, Feed on your nothing and you'll never live up to me, Awaken you, ooh no, can't live up to me, I've stricken you, Feed on your nothing and you'll never live up to me."

Then David dropped out, letting Malacahi take over, including the vocal effects. "Stripped of life, alone, in the midst of something that I want to play with your evil inside, Wanting, letting go, of what never could be again, Lost and alone, imprisoned now inside your mind, With the way your tried to destroy me again, You were waiting and living for no one, with the way you tried to completely refuse all your life, Feed on your nothing, You'll never live up to me."

David joined back in for the chorus. "Awaken you, With a little evil inside, Feed on your nothing, You'll never live up to me, I've stricken you, I don't wanna live with the lies, Feed on your nothing and you'll never live up to me, Awaken you, ooh no, can't live up to me, I've stricken you, Feed on your nothing and you'll never live up to me

There isn't a thing that I can do, Watching the whole thing just wash away, Making me long, There isn't a thing that I can do, watching this whole thing just wash away, Making me long, Making you strong

Awaken you, With a little evil inside, Feed on your nothing, You'll never live up to me, I've stricken you, I don't wanna live with the lie, Feed on your nothing and you'll never live up to me, Awaken you, ooh, Can't live up to me, Feed on your nothing and you'll never live up to me." The guys kept playing through the end of the song and the crowd went crazy. "Give it the fuck up for Malachai!" David roared into the mic. As Malachai walked off stage waving, the intro to "Voices" came up.

When Malachai reached his mom, who was standing backstage the entire time, he was beaming. "Mom, that was so freakin cool! I wanna go back out there!"

"Was it an adrenalin rush?" Brie asked her boy.

"Heck yeah. That was the coolest EVER! It was TOTALLY WICKED!!!"
