Chapter 22

When they got home from the store, they started their part of the cooking. They got the meat marinating, and started their part of the sides to go with it. Irian/ Brie threw a salad together and helped David wherever she could. There wasn't too much to do until he put the meat on the grill. It seemed like a typical family gathering to her. Pot luck style, everybody pitching in, cold beer and smiling faces... things she'd missed since leaving Tennessee.

David saw her face, but couldn't decipher what the look meant. It looked a little reminiscent but wistful at the same time. "What's wrong?" he asked.

"I was just trying to remember the last family cook out I was at. I haven't been at one of those in a long time."

David smiled. "It will be fine. But, I'm warning you, be prepared for the other guys’ wives to bombard you with questions and stuff. If you look like you need help, I'll try to come to the rescue. It depends on how much the guys are bugging me over you."

"Yeah, I heard what Dan said this morning. He's told the other two by now, huh?"

Davis nodded. "I'm sure he has, and I'm sure there are going to be a million questions over if when they get here."

"Great... just fucking great."
