Once Brie was finally torn off of the General, she had to be carried from the room because she began crying uncontrollably again. The General followed David to their room as he carried Brie up the stairs.
After setting his wife on the bed, he went back to the door. "Don't you take a hint, mother fucker? She told you the leave three times."
"David, I just wanted to apologize in person about this. I feel responsible for it happening."
"That's because you and the Director are responsible for it. You’re the ones that sent him back into the fucking lion's den."
"I can only apologize more, David. I had no idea..."
David pulled the door shut. "No idea. Are fucking kidding me? You had every idea that this could happen. And now you want to stand here in my home, in my face, and tell me you had no idea? Go to hell where you belong and don't come back to this house again unless you have Matthew Cartwright in tow. Got it?"
"Yes, David, and again, I'm very sorry."
David shook his head. "Deaf ears, General. Now leave before I kick your ass." And with that, he went into his room to sit with his wife.
--------------
She had reduced herself to sniffling when he came back in the room. "Hey", she said.
"Hey. How are you feeling?"
"Like a bitch. Did I really just attack the General?"
He nodded. "Yeah, baby, you did. You beat his ass, too."
She chuckled a little. "He should have listened when I told him to go away."
He moved to sit on the bed. "Are you feeling better about what's happened with Matt?"
She thought about it for a moment. "Yes and no."
"How so?"
"Yes in that I've finally accepted it, but no in that I still don't like it and I'm pissed about it. I definitely feel better after beating the shit out of that guy, though." She laid her head on his thigh.
"I'm glad to hear you speaking in more than one or two words at a time. I was afraid that we were going to have to call out a psychiatrist there for a minute." He rubbed her back in useless circles.
"I was that far gone?"
"Yeah."
"Shit. No wonder I lost it like that."
"I would have done the same thing if I hadn't been so worried about you. Hell, I almost punched him when I saw him at the door."
"You didn't."
"No, but I really wanted to. I figured I would leave that to you." He laughed.
She pushed up and laid her head on his shoulder. Thank you for taking care of me through all this. I just went into shock..."
He laid a finger against her lips. "Shh, you don't have to thank me. I'm your husband. Your partner. It's kinda in the job description." He kissed her on the top of the head. "Plus, I love you more than anything. What upsets you upsets me. I see you break down like that and I get pissed, but you're always my first priority... always."
