The cabin fever was starting to get to everyone, but especially to David. He couldn't explain it, but he felt this nagging need to get out and at least listen to what was really going on outside the four walls of what he had once viewed as his prison, now his home, if not speak. "I can't explain it", he'd said to Brie one night, "but I have to get out there. I know that touring isn't really an option because of the massive targets on our heads, but I've got to get out there."
She smiled at him. "Well, Deborah is an organizer for a lot of the rallies that happen in the area. Why don't you talk to her and see if there are any coming up?"
"Really?" he asked. "You'd seriously let me go?"
"Not alone. I'm going with you."
"NO! Out of the question. We have children to think about and there is no way in hell that I'm going to let our children lose both of their parents. No fucking way."
"No, David Michael, I'm going, like it or not. I used to do shit like this, speak at rallies, organize them, all that crap. You have never done anything like that.
Then he had an idea. "I know this is probably one of the worst ideas I've ever had, because it puts all of us in danger, but, why don't we host one here?"
"What?"
"Yeah, you and Deborah can organize it, get speakers for it and all that good shit. Maybe the band can perform too."
She blinked at him. "You're serious, aren't you?"
"Deathly so."
She rubbed a hand over her face and sighed. "Talk to the guys about it. If they like the idea, then I'll call Deborah and we can get started."
"Really?"
"Yes, dear. I mean it."
--------------
"Danny, John, Mikey, conference room, now!" David said as he ran down the stairs.
"What? What for?" Dan asked as he followed David. The other two trailed behind him.
"I need to talk to you guys about something", David called from the conference room.
The guys came in and shut the door behind them. "What's up, David?" John asked.
"I had an idea as to how we can get out of the house for a hour or two. You guys might not like it, but it's the best idea any of us have."
"Ok", Mike said cautiously. "Spill it, then, bro. We ain't got the rest of our lives you know."
David took a deep breath. "Ok, here it is. Hold a rally here at the house. It keeps us where we can be protected and if need be, protect ourselves, the kids will get to see us perform, and we can get a little fresh air and stretch our legs some outside the house."
They thought about it. "All valid arguments, David, but who's going to organize this if we say yes?"
"Brie said that she'd do it with Deborah's help."
"Deborah has been dying for a reason to come back here, guys", John said, "and Kristen and I have our hands full with the three we have. I'm sure the rest of you are the same way."
David shook his head. "I want more if Brie's body can handle it. The Doctor is going to come out in a week or two to see if we can have more on our own. If not, we're going to look in to surrogates."
"Fuck, brother, you want a fucking house full, don't you?"
"Hell yes, I do. Now, back to the subject at hand. What do I tell Brie about the rally?"
They gave it some thought. "Sure, why not?" Dan said.
"It could be fun", John said.
"Are we performing or not at this thing?"
"More than likely", David answered.
"Cool. I've been dying to get behind my kit in front of a crowd. Let's do it!"
--------------
David ran through door. "Call Deborah. They said yes." He beamed from ear to ear.
She laughed, turning to show him that her phone was to her ear. "Yeah, they said they'd perform. No, he's just really excited about this. They haven't been able to do shit in public in damn near four years. Yeah, we've all been cooped up in this fucking house for that long. Ok, thanks Deborah. Let me know what you come up with as far as a date, and I'll handle the rest. Because I used to do this in a previous life as well as have a successful massage clinic." She laughed. "Ok, thanks a bunch Deborah. Hey, before you go, do you think you can do the PR for it? That's great. You're the best. Ok, bye." She looked at David. "What were you saying?"
"It seems you're one step ahead of me, as usual."
"They said yes?"
"Yeah."
"Thought they would, so I took the liberty of calling Deborah, just in case."
"Like I said, one step ahead of me, as usual."
