Chapter 165

"What the HELL?" Brie shouted when David told her what had transpired over the phone.

"I know, baby.  But, if we at least agree to LOOK at a contract, then the Commandant will back off.  You have to admit, the plan is fool proof."

"But I thought you guys didn't want to go out of the country."

"We don't.  And we certainly don't want to take our families in to a country like Russia.  They're undergoing a civil war of their own over there.  I don't see them calling a truce to have a metal concert and I'm not risking you OR the kids in territory more hostile than what we have here at home."

She sighed.  "You getting the Commandant's hopes up, honey, and that's not fair.  Maybe you should talk to Matt about what's going on with the Commandant.  See if he can talk to the Commandant for you guys."

David thought about it for a moment.  "It's not a half bad idea, but let me see what the contract says before I talk to Matt about what's going on."  He laughed a little.  "Maybe it's time for another changing of the guard in the Resistance Army Leadership.  Maybe they'll put a woman in there next.  God knows that if there were a woman in there now, this war would already be over."

Brie smiled.  "You know it.  Maybe they'll put a female Admiral in there or something", she laughed.  "Lord knows that a woman would have this damn war over in three months tops.  No questions asked."

"Or maybe they'll put a woman in charge of the Agency.  You do know that the Director is retiring?"

Brie's eyes went wide.  "Really?"

"Yep.  The Director is retiring and moving to Britain.    He's had it with the War."

"I hope they do put a woman in office up there then.  We should see an end to this ridiculous war in a year and a half, at the least; three at the most."

--------------

"Are you sure you can do that job, Gail?'

"Jared, you worry far too much.  I was the Director of the FBI for how long before this war started?"

"Do you think you can end this fucking thing, Gail?"

"I don't think I can end anything, Jared. I know I can end it.  Now, you had better get out of here before you miss your flight.  Tell Ginny I said hi."

"Will do", the Director said and gave her a peck on the cheek.

Once the former Director was gone, Gail pulled out the file on the Disturbed Household.  The men, their wives, their children.  Hell, it even mentioned how many pets they'd had in the past few years.  She smiled as she looked at the picture of the Draiman family.  Mr. and Mrs. Draiman looked so happy together, and the eight of their children were so pretty.  She looked closer at the picture of the woman on Mr. Draiman's arm.  "No, it can't be.  That can't be Mitchell's daughter.  Is that really Irian?"
