Chapter 172

Not two days later, the Commandant knocked at the door.  David ushered him in to the Kitchen where the band assembled for meeting like this.  "Ok, Commandant", Dan said when the man was seated, "let's see those contracts."

The Commandant laid them out on the table.  "One for each of you.  Mind you, if one of you signs and the rest don't the concert does not happen.  It can't happen unless all of you signs your individual contract."

"So, are you saying if three of us sign and one wants to be a jack ass and not sign, the concert doesn't happen either?" Mike asked as he flipped through his copy of the document·

"Precisely.  It doesn't happen unless you all sign your papers."

David sat quietly sipping a cup of coffee and reading his contract thoroughly.  He didn't utter a word as he read.  He was so quiet that Brie could tell what he was thinking.  He was recalling the words of her brother from the other day.  He's just using you to get information on targets we've already eliminated.  David knew that this concert was a bad idea, but he'd keep his comments on it to himself until Commandant Henchly was gone.  He knew that silence was prudent for the moment.  Even when Henchly asked him what he thought, he just shook his head and sipped his coffee.  He would only share his thoughts with his brothers in the band and the women in the room.  Henchly didn't deserve to know what he thought of all this shit.

Finally, after answering questions from the other guys, Commandant Henchly took his leave to go and pack for his indefinite vacation as he was calling it.  David knew better.  Having the clearance he did made him privy to that kind of information.  Having a brother in law that was close to the Commandant didn't hurt either.  There was something almost satisfying about watching Henchly walk out of the house.

Once he was gone, Brie sat in David's lap.  "So, what do you think of what Commandant Liar had to say?"

"I think he's full of shit, personally", David said.

Dan glanced at the contract in front of him, then picked it up and ripped it in half.  "Hell to the no", he said.  "Not doing it.  It's too risky."  Mike and John echoed his sentiments, tearing their contracts in to pieces.

David smiled.  "Ok.  Looks like we're all in agreement here."  David picked up this contract, then looked at the woman sitting him his lap.  "Care to do the honors for me, baby?"

She smiled and took the stack of papers from her husband, ripping them in half.  "No trip to Russia?" she said with a smile.

He shook his head.  "No trip to Russia."
